Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Learn how to use instruments which offer theories of drama for analysis and interpretation of a dramatic text and on this basis to be able to select a suitable text (both with regard to its dramatic and theatrical qualities and its suitability for the specific group), to explain and create your own dramaturgic directorial concept for its stage realisation. To be able to apply the acquired knowledge and experience in a creative manner for the needs of theatre played by children.

Mode of study:

Drama text readings and analyses, viewing staging recordings and their analyses, discussion.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

1. General knowledge of Czech and world drama literature.

2. Basic bearing in literary theory.

3. Analytical and review skills.

Course contents:

Dramaturgy Fundamentals is focused on the explication of the basic concepts in drama theory and an understanding of the manner in which a drama work may be conceived and what makes the essence of its dramatic effect.

Curriculum:

- Drama genres.

- Epic drama and theatre.

- Decomposition of dramatic plot (Czechov).

- Additional modern drama tendencies.

- Original theatre.

- The particulars of dramaturgy in theatre by children.

Credit is awarded based on:

lecture and class participation,

completion of the semester paper.

During the semester independent readings and participation in class discussions are required.

The overall evaluation is comprised of 20% for class participation and 80% for the paper.
