Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is to help students select a topic, assemble a schedule for completion, advise on how to procede in the bibliography and practical research, how to manage the acquired materials and how to arrange and lay it out. Then in individual and group consultations, the instructors of the given master's specialization assist in achieving the established research aims.

- Classes, individual consultations, independent research.

206PID1, Diploma Project 1.

Course contents:

This course covers individual research and practice tasks for the thesis paper and students mutually inspire one another with the sharing of questions and issues. Aside from this the classes are based on individual consultations focused on resolving particular problems of individual papers.

Assessment methods and criteria:

The requirements for completing the course are on-going consultations on the master's project with a particular instructor, attendance at group classes and submission of a semester papers as on-going reports on the fulfilling of the project.

The exam is in the form of an obligatory public verbal presentation according to the following rules:

- Each student presents the conclusion of their entire year's master's research in which they managed, consulted and developed or prepared development for the thesis;

- The presentation is at least 15 and maximum of 20 minutes and the content is the results of research and summary of acquired information nad derived conclusions;

- The formal quality of the presentation, along with content is one of the criteria for the final course grade;

AT LEAST ONE MONTH BEFORE the public presentation (announced on the dept. webpages), the student uploads to the site repository written notes of the presented work of 600 - 1000 characters which will be printed in the presentation program.

AT LEAST ONE WEEK BEFORE the presentation, the student uploads to the site repository the final project report maintaining the following:

Extent: 12-15 standard pages of a related essay + attachements.

Required content:

1. Justification of topic choice, measure of personal relationship the selected topic.

2. Establishment of research tasks (project aim, limitations, justification).

3. Project plan (stages, methods).

4. Description and justification of individual project plan steps.

5. Implemented stages: description and results.

6. Commented (reviewed) selection of literature, including web links.

A merge of submitted material including addendums into one document in PDF format is preferred.

In place of the final report if the student has already submitted the thesis for defense, the student presents the theme on 12-20 pages. The theme is an extract from the thesis and included in particulary a definition of the research task (aim, hypotheses) and important conclusions.

AT LEAST ONE DAY BEFORE the presentation, the student uploads to the site repository the prepared presentation on presentation software, or at least bullet points on their achievements on 3 standard pages maximum.

Grades are given by a commission comprised of the Photography Dept. awarded to the student based on the following criteria (% = criteria weight):

- level of submitted final report or thesis - 40%,

- content and formal presentation level - 30%,

- on-going work on the research project - 30%.

As this is a main study course, according to AMU rules this exam MAY NOT BE REPEATED.
