Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to interpret the relevance and particulars of evaluating the artistic process (theatre activity) from a management perspective.

Mode of study:

The basic method is lecture activity with illustrative examples and one external person - a specialist in evaluating the practice. Supplementary exercises are classes focused on grant practice.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

1. Knowledge of arts institution economic evaluation methods (audit).

2. Acquaintance with principles in evaluating arts processes.

3. Bearing in grants and programs.

The course presents methods of evaluating the artistic process and its impact from a managment perspective and covers issues in evaluating, multiplying, quantifiable effects of the arts, using methodologies of evaluating the artistic process from a management and grant perspective, that is, internal evaluation processes.

Curriculum:

1. Concept of „cultural value“ as entree to the course.

2. Definition and types of economic effects and economic contributions.

3. Multiplying effects of the arts (economic and social).

4. Reason for measuring economic impacts.

5. Artistic process evaluation principles.

6. BSC model?

7. Strategic planning principles.

8. Czech Republic MInistry of Culture and Prague grants and programs.

9. Review of the concept of value in relation to culture policy and practice.

Class: Proposal of one's grant criteria for theatre activity.

Assessment methods and criteria:

To successfully complete the semester with credit, participation in lectures (20%), completion of class assignments (30%) and completion of the written test (50%) are required.
