At the close of the course the student will be able to identify a range of inter-disciplinary concepts of plays in psychology, anthropology and sociology (symbolic interactionism), semiotics, education and engaged theatre.

In three topic ranges, based on readings (selected chapters) and discussions in class, students define the most important play theories and concepts. An understanding of the theory texts will be supplemented by particular plays which will originate in the students' personal experience.
Topic range:
1. E. Goffman - symbolic interactionsim.
2. J. Piaget, H. Široký and E. Berne - psychology.
3. J. A. Komenský - Learning through play.
4. I. Osolsobě - semiotics of plays.
5. A. Boal - theatre of the oppressed.

Independent reading, preparations for a paper on a given topic and participation in discussions in class are required during the course which are requirements for sitting the exam.
Requirements for successful completion of the course: class participation, completion of the final course paper on a selected topic range (15000-18000 characters).
