Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to independently critically analyse covered writings and possible additional studies, this means to indicate key passages, formulate astracts and theses, interpret individual terms, etc. and arrange them in the context of Czech theatre theory.

Mode of study:

Classes, moderated discussion, „close-reading“.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Completion of course in the Winter semester of the academic year.

Course contents:

Contiuance and expansion of issues.

This course is devoted to the analysis of pivotal writings, primarily the Czech post-Zich structural-semiotic school. As well it offers its arrangement into the context of foreign theatre theory. The conclusions should serve the students as a greater understanding of the terminology of Czech theatre theory (acting figure and drama person, significant image presentation and technique, stage character, intention and non-intention, interpretation, components of theatre, direction and dramaturgy, artefact and aesthetic objects and a piece, authorship, medial structure of a theatre act, rehearsal, etc.). As well, the course should elucidate to the students the particular of Czech thought about theatre based on covered writings.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Regular class participation (max. 20% absence), paper. Grading will originate in student class participation as well as the final exam which confirms the ability to comprehend the covered material and formulate general conclusions.
