The student is to acquire a basic idea of the fundamentals of Czech drama works of the covered periods, the position of drama among other literary and theatrical texts, as well as the changes which this type of artistic endeavor has gone through in the first half of the 20th century and parallel trends which „started“ them.

This course is dedicated to Czech drama of the given period as well as the common issues of the theory and historical poetics of drama as a literary type. Students are to receive basic information about the particulars of drama types and the historical changes in individual concepts, the relation of drama to theatre, division into genres, the position of the original subject in a drama, etc. The main emphasis will be placed on analysis and interpretation of individual theatre plays.
Fundamental course topics:
1) Drama as a type of literature and theatre writing.
2) Relation of theatre and literature.
3) Internal subject in drama.
4) Fundamental literature dedicated to drama theory and poetics.
5) Changes in poetics in Czech drama - interpretation of individual drama works.
