Learning outcomes of the course unit:

To introduce students to the basic features and trends in Czech drama in th second half of the 20th century in relation to overall social development and change.

Mode of study:

Presentation of selected theatre plays and discussions about them.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

No requirements.

Course contents:

1. Changes in Czech theatre, drama and literature in the second half of the 20th century.

2. Key playwrights.

3. The contemporary theatre play and dramaturgy of individual theatres.

4. Drama competitions and prizes.

5. Publishing theatre plays.

Other trade literature and dramas are assigned considering the course topics.

Assessment methods and criteria:

To receive credit 80% class participation, completion of assignments at home (papers, partial written work) and, of course, joining in to discussions. The course is concluded with an exam and if needed also a final written paper.
