- Learning outcomes of the course unit:

To teach students to consider theatre in relation to other arts disciplines and in cultural and societal contexts. To connect ideas about theatre to the context of other - philosophic, religious, scientific, and political thought currents. To exercise creation and formulation based on an analysis of not only the work itself but also societal contexts.
To guide students in writing essays at a good level. To cultivate overlaps of trades writings with writings for a wider public. To recognize and avoid thought and language cliches.

Discussion, text analysis, analysis of recorded theatre performances or films, attendance at theatre performances.
- Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Student's should have completed Critique Seminar 1-2. No other requirements.
- Course contents:

The course content is the understanding of the purpose of critique as part of a theatre (stage) work, such as a review necessary for the further development of theatre arts.
Curriculum
1/ Critique as a professional judgement of a work.
2/ The objectivity and Subjectivity of the critique.
3/ Critics and basis for professional judgement of a stage work.
4/ Critique structure and 'genres' of critiques in relation to their definition (journal, professional periodical, radio, internet, festival...).
5/ The art of describing acting performance and basis for its judgment.
6/ Excursion to the history of Czech theatre review and works of the most important personalities.

- Assessment methods and criteria:

Credit and the exam are awarded primarily based on participation thorughout the entire course. Another necessary condition for credit is completion of a paper (defended in a discussion), or completion of a test evaluating the students view and bearing in contemporary theatre events and writing ability (including a Czech spelling and grammar test).
