Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Practical aim: Introduce students of all studies to the practical side of directing.

Extent: 2 days:

Date and time + course:

First day (Thursday) 8:00 - Studio FAMU, picking-up of videocameras, tripods and materials (other devices must be acquired from student's own resources - ex: writing needs, supplies in supplying scenes, arising from selected writings).

Moving from Lažan to the Directing Dept. - studio No.# 236, beginning at 9:00 the Directing Dept. practical takes place in the presence of the instructor and his assistance from a number of Directing Dept. Master's students.

Second day (Friday) 9:00 - 16:00

The Practical has 5 implementaition phases:

A. reading a selected reading offered by the instructor - the writing's dialog dominates, determining the number of students - potential for casting individual roles and crew, that is, director and cameramen exercises. Usually, for this aim a dialog writing is selected from some celebrated films in the history of cinematorgraphy.

B. casting roles and arranging scenes

C. mis-en-scene - we proceed to the situational layout of the mis-en-scene

D. Video-recording directing - The scene is brought before the camera and in shooting situations we look for the best manner of recording. The rehearsed drama situation is shot with a video-camera from the previously determined angle.

E. Analysis of assembly potential, analysis evaluation - recording is viewed and alternatives analysed. An important role is played by the final screening of the original scene from the film, its division in a genre and historical context of other films.

Certification: Credit is award upon completion (grading) of the practical by the responsible instructor.

Note: the shot material is developed by the student in the non-linear editing practical (AVID).

Assessment methods and criteria:

100% účast na praktiku

+ dodání předpřipraveného autorského záměru ve formě námětu či scénáře a jeho realizace = natáčení.

Natočený materiál studenti dále zpracují v rámci praktika nelineárního střihu (AVID).

Zápočet je udělen po absolvování (vyhodnocení) praktika příslušným pedagogem.
