Learning outcomes of the course unit:

To introduce students to the significant art concept of film.

Mode of study:

A film anecdote or film poem with clear creative intentions. Preparations take place in the Creative Preparations for the 35mm Exercise module at whose end a detailed storyboard will be drawn. The exercise will be edited on a 35mm editing table.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Requirements: Preparations for creating a film poem are based on collaboration with the famous Czech painter M. Rittstein, who, in several shor lectures corrects the views of the students regarding costuming and shot composition in the „Fine Arts Preparations“. New experience is to be use in intensive creative effects of one's short film.

Group exercise, Documentary dept., 3rd year of Bachelors study:

Shooting Technology: 35mm, contact

Pure footage: 3-5 minutes

Number of shooting days: 2 days

Material: 360m color KODAK 35mm, daily work

Sound material: 1x DAT 65, 300m mg. 35mm, 1x S-VHS

Image technology: ARRI III, ARRI III C or MOVIECAM (without lighting)

Sound technology: DAT Fostex PD-4 or Nagra IV 2 days

Editing: 8 frequency editing 35mm

Sound post-production: sound studio FAMU - transcript of daily work, selection of music, background or recorded commentary 1 frequency; preparations and setting mixing track - digital sound editing 1 frequency; digital mixing facility 1 frequency; transfer of mix to 35mm mg; synchronization with 35mm image 1 hour.

Transfer: 35mm negative onto BETACAM DIGITAL (numbered in the presence of a cameraman), 35mm two track product - DV cam, DV cam - VHS and DVD, maintenance of the S-VHS with TC

Archiving: 35mm two track (or also kk) - NFA, DV cam - Studio FAMU, VHS and DVD - Documentary Dept. video library.

Recommended or required reading:

It would be good if students spend some time with images in Graphic Arts publications and consider their composition.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Deadline and grading: Summer semester, submitted to the Documentary Dept. by Sept. 5th.

Script deadline: Winter semester (by the 1st of November)

Implementation deadline: Nov. - Jan.
