Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Students are introduced to the complex process of creating a photo-script, which is guaranteed by successful dramaturgy, implementation and compositional completion of the documentary project. The students learn, independently and creatively, to create a photograph script of 30-50 shots in digital form in which they demonstrate their skill in artistic vision and sense of image composition.

Instructions for submitting the exercise: from a series of given shots on an analogy topic (Rokytka, Motolsky creek, etc) to select and arrange an image skeleton for a future documentary form. In a written commentary, to create the thought counterbalance to the proposed photo-script.

Mode of study:

Instruction takes place based on examples, analyses of the photo-script of the director, Jiří Lehovec with the title - Botič, the Creek of the Poor from 1935.

Moderated discussion, group and individual consultations, analysis of photographed material: image and thought analysis of the completed photo-script in .pdf format.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Image and thinking skills for preparation for the future documentary form. Development of abilities to arrange acquired material into image and consideration counterpoints.

Course contents:

In the phase of creating the piece (arranging shots and creating groups of photos on the principle of image analogy), the instructor analyses with the students the material directly on the projection surface.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Credit is awarded based on an analysis of the presented version of the photo-script and class participation.
