Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Acquainting Documentary Dept. students with work in the studio (multiple cameras, lighting, scenery and its lighting, dividing scenes in a sequence and their directing treatment - working with actors).

Mode of study:

Literature preparations: from October to November.

Classification deadline: Students present the film „Studio acting etude“ at the summary exam in Sept and receive credt.

Completion deadline - shot in the studio: November to March.

FAMU Studio - simple set design for all in the study year (approved 2 weeks prior to implementation at the latest)

Shooting technology: 3 studio cameras Betacam Digital + Betacam Digital, portable preview set, contact sound

Footage: cca. 10 minutes

Number of shooting days: 3 frequency in the studio + 8 hours preview on set (+ 1/2 freq. construction)

Material: 2x Betacam Digital 60 min; VHS

Sound Material: 1x CD-R, 1x S-VHS with TC

Image technology: 3 studio cameras, Betacam Dig., studio lighting + Betacam Digital preview set.

Sound technology: Studio equipment + for extensive supplemental shooting mixing table + accessories

Editing: continual during shooting for Betacam; 20 freq. Avid Xpress DV; 1 freq. on-line, editing frequencies, including log for sound post-production

Sound post-production: 3 freq. digital sound editing table - contact + transfer + preparation of mixing setting, 1 freq. digital mixing table, 1 hour feedback transfer mix to Betacam Digital

Transfer: Betacam Digital - VHS and DVD

Archiving: Betacam Digital - Studio FAMU, VHS and DVD - Documentary Dept. Video library.

Requirements: Courses: Make-up, Costuming, scenery; working with actors

Course contents:

Group exercise, 2nd year of bachelor's study, Documentary Dept:

A simple production of one's short writing, or theatre play or classic film script excerpt. The exercise will take place with minimal scenery but with lighting, sound, shooting and independent acting events. The situation is prepared and rehearsed beforehand in the studio, fine-tuned and recorded. Preparations take place during the Scriptwriting Preparations for an Acting Etude and Working with an Actor courses.
