This module focuses on diverse forms of so called experimental documentaries - films and videos which experiment with means of expression of film language, narration, media, presentation channel or audience environment or receptive habits of the audience. Of course, this originates in references to reality or direct documentary or documentation materil. Instruction demonstrates and will analyze examples of the artistic strategies of these pieces. We focus, primarily, on contemporary production. In the first part of the module we introduce historic examples.

- diverse work with found footage, taxonomy of film found footage
- formats on the border of film and graphic arts
- films made with computers or other autonomous devices (ex: haptic camera), development of such devices
- various forms of self-criticism in experimental pieces
- production and distribution models of contemporary cinematorgraphy in examples from various countries

90% attendance and active in class, completion of assignments:
Students may bring to class either a 2-6 minutes example their work, a classmates work or any older than 10 years which they consider experimental film or is on the edge or a hybrid (which works with reality) and prepares a approx. 3-5 min. contribution (interest in contributions is to be announced by the 26th of March by email at andreas@document-festival.cz - the presentations will take place at the beginning of the afternoon part of the module - there may be a max. of 10), within this there will be an analysis of the means of expression, relationship to reality and manner of significance of the construction of the work, or a selection of 3-4 of the presentations or any other hybrid or borderline piece and write a short (approx. 10 lines) of a micronalysis or collection of commments (overall extent 1-2 standard pages). This is to be sent to the same email address by 20. April 2017.
