Learning outcomes of the course unit:

A presentation of the movement, dance and sound technique of Kalado

Mode of study:

Live movement instruction - this module is appropriate for all AMU study programs.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Bring appropriate dance clothing (with no emphasized printing - for recording) and clean dance hall shoes. Blankets and pillows for the lullaby concert.

Course contents:

Kalado is an art whose single artist is the Japanese artist and performer Sai Kijima. Tereza Tara was under his tutorship for many years in order to investigate the art which carries elements of women, traditional Japanese art, dance, ecology and minimalism. Over the ten days in Prague they will record a film.

In the workshop for AMU students Sai Kijima will present Kalado and focus on the presentation of movement, dance and sound techniques. In the morning will be Kalado movement lessons, and in the afternoon demonstrations and Jusuli massage instruction and then a Lullaby concert in which you will be able listen to Japanese songs and fall asleep. This workshop has been arranged for FAMU, DAMU and HAMU students. During the workshop the will be the recording of a documentary.

Sai Kijima is a Japanese artist living in Switzerland working in dance, performance, graphic arts and music. After several years in Paris, where he had artistic freedom and danced on the streets, he settled in Basel, a quiet medieval city. In Basel he has participated in multiple-day Lent celebrations, so called, Fassnacht. Each year, in winter he travels to the Greek island Amorgos, where he cleans the beaches and the collected material, uses in the creation in the creation of sculptures and puppets. The puppets are displayed in galleries and performances with them are part of charity events for disabled children. He is invited to prestige galleries and modern art galleries where he has Kalado performances.

Instruction in orginal Kalado technique, working with the body and voice by the Japanese performer Sai Kijima personally. The workshop will be in English. For non-English speakers there will be translation. Bring with you appropriate dance clothing (without print - for recording) and clean dance hall shoes. Blankets and Pillows for the Lullaby concert.
