Master Class: Bill Morrison
Wed. 26 18:30 - 20:30
American experimental film and documentary maker, Bill Morrison uses various damaged film strips in his films; most frequently, those destroyed by the march of time. Based on examples from his films, he presents how archive material can be transformed to very diverse film works, those based on the image, documentary or narrative. This demonstrates how significant the original source material can be changed by placing its fragments into a new context.
Case Study Lukáš Kokeš:
Can One Still Be Original?
Thurs. 27, 11:30-1:30 pm.
In the quantities of the audio-visual materials that surround us, films are permeating and reflecting on one another. It is essential to learn the context of contemporary cinema in which our film works are set and to consciously work with this context. Is originality possible anymore? This is the question me, Klára Tasovská, the co-author of most of the
films I have collaborated on, and producer Tomáš Hrubý always ask ourselves ever since the early stages of developing our film script. In fact, when you are watching films you are actually already working on your own ideas and scripts.
Lukáš Kokeš (1983)
A graduate of documentary filmmaking at FAMU in Prague. Along with screenwriter Štěpán Hulík and producers Tomáš Hrubý and Pavla Janoušková Kubečková he worked on the development and making of Wasteland produced by HBO Europe. He teamed up with Klára Tasovská to create Fortress. The duo is currently working on feature film Nothing
Like Before co-produced by HBO Europe.

2036: Documentary Odyssey
Fri. 28, 2 pm. - 3:30 pm.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the Jihlava IDFF we asked distinguished guests of the previous festival editions to answer the following question: Will a documentary film exist in 20 years, and if so, what form will it have? We will try to find the answer also with our panellists, who would hardly have met at one table 20 years ago. The world of documentary cinema, art galleries, online media and the gaming industry has become remarkably interlinked.

Masterclass: Jacopo Quadri
FRI28 6:30 PM—10 PM
Italian Editor, Jacopo Quadri has worked with the documentary maker Gianfranco Rosim on the successfull film Fuocoammare (Fire on the Sea), which this year won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale. At his Editing Masterclass will be screened his original film Summer School (2014). According to Quadri, film editing „somehow physical and fluid, it is like a river flowing through an unknown landscape. The viewer is a swimmer or a mariner. Each element is interdependent, whether a contrast or similar so the film is as a path.“

Masterclass: Claire Atherton
Sat. 2 pm. - 4:30 pm.
In the work of the French editor Claire Atherton, closely collaborating with Chantal Akerman, reflects the conviction that the narrative element and fundamental tool of the film media is, aside from the image and sound, time. Editing, according t o her, gives the film shape - makes it visible and embodies it - intutively as a thought process. At the Masterclass, she shares with the audience her rich experience, brings them closer to her own idea of editing and responds to basic issues: What role does editing play in filmmaking? How is editing able to join material and the director's vision into one?
