Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the area of media rights - legal form and regulation of the media in the Czech Republic (radio and television broadcast, print, internet, audio-visual work, advertisement regulation), entreprenurial conditions in the media market, state regulatory organs, estates and professional self-regulation, protection of privacy and reputation and names of legal bodies in media.

Legislation and regulation of the media in the Czech Republic (radio and television broadcast, print, internet, audio-visual, regulation of advertisement). Requirements of entreprenurialship in the media market, state regulatory bodies, estates and professional self-regulation. Protection of privacy and reputation and name of legal subjects in the media.

1. Generally about media - concept, system, legislation

2. Radio and television broadcast. The legal framework including European directives. Freedom of speech, right to information. Regulation systems, self-regulation. Ethics codexes..

3. Dual broacast systems. Czech Radio, Czech Television. Public value. Financing public services in broadcasting. Licence and registration. Financing prive radion and TV broadcast.

4. Basic rights and obligations of broadcast operators. Objectivity and balance. Short news excerpts. Accreditation requirements. Socially significant events. Obligations in regard to disabled persons. Jurispridence.

5. Advertising, teleshopping, sponsoring, product placement, Jurisprudence.

6. Comparing TV broadcast and providing audio-visual media services upon request.

7. Print media. Print legislation. Periodicals registration. Required information. Right to response and supplementary communications. Source protection. The Czech Press Office.

8. Internet portals. Information service companies.

9. Personal protection and protection of reputation and name of legal subjects in the media

10. Jurisprudence for personal protection, including right to resonse.

Grading is based on passing the written test and at least 75% attendance at lectures.
