Learning outcomes of the course unit:

A basic bearing in the terminology and the commercial cinema environment in the Czech Republic focusing on the production of local advertising commercials and service shooting with a foreign crew.

Course contents:

1. Introduction

a) Introduction to issues

b) Film production volume in the Czech Republic and the division into production creations, foreign contracts, domestic advertisements, TV production, and other variations. Corresponding division of independent production companies. Differences in accounting. How these types of production function. Everday vs. projects. Principles - fill-drain? Outsourcing - lending, post-production, location, casting, crew. Operations and work quality.

c) Organizations and associations moving about the commercial AV market. State support system.

2. Domestic advertisement

a) the client - Advertising agency - Production. Who is who in these companies. Who meets with whom. Division of legal powers.

b) Rise of an advertising campaign, commercial production tender (budget, treatment, timing), Who does what. Who decides what.

c) Particular commercial production upon winning a tender. Hierarchy of approval, control projections, the wrap. The roles of particular people. Transfer of rights to the piece.

3. Foreign Contracts

a) reasons for shooting in the Czech Republic. The film commission. Incentives.

b) How to get a contracto for Czech producers.

c) What the assignment involves. Film vs. Advertisement.

d) Particular products. Who comes. Communication channels. Rights. Accompanying programs.

4. Advertisment in practice

a) Individual professions (director, animator/artist, producer, cameraman, editor, sound master, architect?) in advertisement.
