Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Basic bearing in the issues facilitating inclusion into the working process in this market segment.

Mode of study:

Lectures with audio-visual piece examples. Presentation of real material from practice (budget, treatment, storyboard...) and subsequent debates.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

A fundamental bearing in the production process for an Audio-visual piece expected from the FAMU student.

Course contents:

a) Introduction to issues

b) Extent of film production in the Czech Republic and division into production, foreign contracts, domestic advertisement, TV production, and others. Corresponding to the division of independent production companies. Differences in accounting. How does this type of production function: Everyday vs. project production. Principle „fulfill - launch“. Outsourcing - rentals, post-production, location, casting, crew. Operations and quality work.

c) Organization and associations in the commercial AV market. State support system. APA, AKA, ACRA, FC, ADC

d) Festivals: ADC awards (Louskáček), Zlatá Pecka, Zlatý středník, Effie. Cannes Lions

2. Domestic advertisement

a) client - Advertising agency - Production. Who is who in these companies, who meets with whom, distribution of authority.

b) Rise of the advertising campaign, tender for commercial production (budget, treatment, timing), Who does what. Who decides what.

c) One's own commercial production after winning a tender, hierarchy of approval, pre-screening, post-shooting. Defined roles for defined people. Transfer of rights.

3. Foreign contracts

a) Reasons for shooting in the Czech Republic. The Film Commission, incentives, rate of exchange.

b) How to get a contract for Czech producers.

c) What the assignment amounts to. Film vs. Commercial.

d) One's own production. Who comes, communication channels, authority, Accompanying program.

4. Commercials in practice

a) Individual professions (director, animator/artist, production, cameraman, editor, sound designer, architect....) in commercials.

Attendance at all parts of lectures. Partial absences may be made up by a written assignment.
