Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Introduction to preparations for, production of and finishing an extensive television program.

Mode of study:

The lectures are envisioned as a professional discussion over individual Czech Television projects with an emphasis on direct broadcast, large entertainment programs and reality shows. Personal participation in implementation.

Knowledge of television program production

Course contents:

Gradually students go through all the production phases of TV taping. An inseparable part of instruction is also an introduction to production administration which is necessary and often differs from the documentary which is submitted in the FAMU production exercise.

Instruction is comprised of three Czech Television visits, each one for one day in which the first will be during preparations, the second, taping and finally settlement.

At the end of the workshop students receive a real budget of the given program and modify it according to instructions.

The aim is to introduce students to the real television production environment, demonstrate the differences in film and TV shooting and finally, provide the opportunity to actively take part in the real creation of a TV program.

The instruction dates are determined by agreement according to a real shooting plan.

Recommended or required reading:

Notes from lectures, shooting experience, introduction to Czech Television operations. This course is intended for master's students and the number is limited. Consultation with the instructor - Dr Svoboda is necessary prior to registration. A practical knowledge of TV work is emphasized. Material for Czech Television program production.

Assessment methods and criteria:

The course is concluded with an exam. Attendance is 80%. Participation in discussions and debates. The initiative of the students and their active interest is required. The aim is the most practical use of potential to learn about Czech Television operations from the production side.
