Acquaintance with characteristic indicators of individual photographic techniques and their determining using the deconstructive method.

Students, in this course, will learn to work with collections of objects nad identify that material. Before restoration steps and photographic material conservation, there must be an identification of the chemical composition, type of photographic technique used.

Exercise:

Material determination on cellulose background using and optical microscope. More precise identification using an optical microscope with various zoom angles which will be best for determining the given technique. Based on the distribution: single-layer, two-layer, three-layer material and photomechanical print. Further photographic material determination on silicon, plastic and metal backgrounds.

Course contents:

The Photographic Technique Identification course develops the Historical Photographic Technology Technique course. This course acquaints students with historical and modern photograhic materials. The course is focused on a non-destructive determination of individual techniques.

Lectures:

Students in this course learn to work with collection objects and identify materials. Prior to photograph restoration and conservations steps, there must be an identification of the chemical composition, that is type of photographic technique used.

Exercise:

Determining materials on cellulose using an optical microscope. For more precise identification a zoom microscope will be used which will be optimal for determining the technique. Based on divisions: Single-layer, two-layer, three-layer material and photomechanic print. Further determinations on silicate, plastic and metallic backgrounds.
