Students will get awareness of preproduction of a film, set preparation, practise and routine of daily organization of work and be instructed about a normal day of work on a set, including unforeseen problems and circumstances.

Course contents:

Lisa Castagna's workshop is a practical guide on set, reality of film production and directing (and not only), Lisa works mainly as continuity (or script girl) and has a wide experience in many different productions, she can manage crazy actors, ego driven directors, moneyless producers, rough crews... she has seen all.... and will introduce students to day by day routine of film set, workforce, crew, organization of work, management of human and creative resources, budgeting and expenses, as well as production issues, documents, production boards, call sheets, as well as simple set and scene handling, and troubleshooting.

If we start from the observation of reality as it’s unfold under our eyes, we’ll understand better how to get into cinema or more widely into filmmaking - which include all sort of movie images from feature film, to short film, documentary, videos, advertising, video art and television.

There are three important phases:

-Pre-Production: script, breakdown, schedule, budgeting, calendar and film crew

-Production: How to shoot the script, directing, shots list, how to breakdown the scenes, how to shoot words using images. What every shots means, how to use the shots to

tell the story, the importance of the camera angles why we break filmmaking rules and how to do it.

-Post-production: how the pieces got back together, why our choices on set affect the editor’s work.

Analyse all this points is the most helpful tool for the director and helps coordinating the production and mostly the post production.

Since she was a child she observes and writes with images: it is her silent way to record the world with her head in the clouds, a habit she has never lost moved by the wind that, as director Kim Ki -Duk says, is „hard to say whether life is a dream or reality “. Graduated to the Dams-Bologna, with an experimental thesis on The use of video for psychiatric rehabilitation, with two years of research, one of which in Scotland at Glasgow University; a Master in Film & TV Production-University of Perugia; a specialization at the Scuole Civiche-Politecnico di Cinema Milano, where she had as teacher director Marina Spada, with whom she works as co-author and script supervisor for Controvento, a documentary film about bipolar disorder.

Since 2004 she works as a script supervisor, assistant director and co-continuity girl in Italy and abroad for films, documentaries, video art and film live, with directors including: R. Benigni, La tigre e la neve; S. Nocita, La Strada di Paolo; E. Budina, Balkan Bazar; R. Gabbai Io Ricordo, produced by Muccino e M. Costa Io Volo – RAI5.

From 2009 she works as a teacher, organizing workshops and seminars about visualization: narrating using images and film continuity in film academies, Universities and in the Departments of Psychiatry. Daughters are like mothers (women along the Silk Road), is her directorial debut - a documentary in which she is also the author.
