Vašulka has lived and worked in New York since the 60s where he was celebrated as a founder of the legendary center of alternative media culture, The Kitchen. Aside from the typical and well-known works, the Mystery of Memory exhibition at the Špilberk castle focuses on Vašulka's key works from the 60s up to the present. The focal point of the exhibition is one of Vašulka's interactive multimedia installations from the monumental work „Brotherhood“. Vašulka's piece will be presented in various contexts at the conference, for example, issues in restoration and updating his older works from the perspective of so called media archeology. Vašulka's works have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, the InterCommunication Center in Tokyo and the Zentrum fuer Kunst und medientchnologie in Karlsruhe. The Brno City Museum exhibit has been organized in cooperation with the Institute Vašulka Chamber Reykyavik, under the Island National Gallery, the Center for Audio-visual Studies, FAMU Prague, where Bohuslav Vašulka studied in the 60s, and the Vašulka Kitchen co, Brno.
