Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim is to present the basic history stages in theatre and drama thought. To explain and learn the basic terminology used in understanding a drama text. To check analytical approach tools for a drama text and its adaptation.

The word theories, in plural, since the course is not the presentation of one theory but a collection of samples of various types of thought on drama.

Mode of study:

Lectures of which part is a discussion on topics from required readings.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

During the semester students individually study the required literature as assigned.

Lecture participation is not required but successfull sitting of the exam requires not only the required literature as assigned but also the lecture content. Wikipedie and similar unreliable sources on the internet cannot substitute for active participation in lectures. Therefore it is good to rely on one's own notes and study.

Assessment methods and criteria:

If the data from the lecture is written from readings this means the students will, at that lecture, know that element from the list of required literature. The first text is written at about the middle of the semester. Its object will be the to-date covered material + corresponding readings. The course is concluded with an exam which is comprised of the test (that test must be completed up to at least 60%) and subsequent discussion. Conditions for successfull completion of the course are participation in lectures and knowledge of the obligatory literature in the given extent.
