Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Ability to communicate in complex situations.

Ability to lead discussions on abstract topics.

Vocabulary of the study area.

Mode of study:

Readings and text analysis, listenings, presentation and practice of grammar and lexical structures, moderated discussions, independent presentation.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Knowledge from lower level (B1/1, B1/2) course is required.

Course contents:

Development of all language skills.

Speaking: Forming and defending opinions, evaluating arguments, proposing solutions, expressing emotions.

Writing a CV and motivation letter

Comprehension of standard speech, news and films

Reading comprehension of study subject texts, current articles in the media

More complex grammar: conditionals: modal verbs in the past, indirect speech, verb phrases, articles

Word creation: linking expressions

Terminology from the study subject

Topics: theatre, film, visual arts, communication tools.

Assessment methods and criteria:

This course is concluded with an exam.

The conditions for sitting the exam are:

class participation

completion of assignments

an independent presentation

The exam is written and oral.

The written test (approx. 60min) contains reading comprehension, listening, grammar and vocabulary sections.

The oral section is comprised of a translation, analysis, as the case may be, reproduction of a trade text of approx. 10 pages which the student consults upon with consultation with the instructor and prepares prior to the exam. The following conversation is on a topic of the study projects.

Written section: 60% of grade

Oral section: 40% of grade

If the student is unable to attend instruction because of extenuating circumstances (internship, competitions, serious health problems), the instructor must be contacted to supply the materials and set a appointment for consultation. Otherwise, the student may sit a test.

Only CJP tests from the last three years will be recognized. Tests from other schools or other English certificates do not release students from the requirement of sitting an appropriate test.
