Learning outcomes of the course unit:

This course is linked to Classical Dance 7. The instruction aim: analysis of new elements, allegro, sur le points technique for the 7th and 8th study years. Ability to independently lead a classical dance lesson at the most advanced stage of instruction. Ability to lead a classical dance lesson not only in school instruction but also in a professional dance ensemble.

Mode of study:

This course completes instruction in Classical Dance Methodology. It completes a detailed analysis of classical dance technique elements of the 7th and 8th study years according to an 8 year dance conservatory curriculum. The master's thesis originates in this course.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Theory knowledge of and practice in classical dance for elementary (1st - 3rd year), intermediate (4th - 5th year) and advanced (6th year) instruction phases and knowledge of new elements a la barre, au millieu for the 7th and 8th years.

Course contents:

Detailed methodic analysis of new elements of the 7th and 8th instruction years - principles, practice, corrections - allegro, sur le pointes, creation of challenging combinations.

Music accompaniment - working with a coach.

Analysis and comparison of differences in the instruction at various schools and styles of classic dance. Awareness of contemporary tendencies in mutual influence of those various systems and styles.

Assessment, analysis and comparison of work at dance conservatories and professional ballet ensembles.

Credit is awarded based on: participation in lectures, ability to methodically work with the given material, presentation

Exam oral-practical

Overall evaluation: 30% participation, 30% methodical work, 30% presentation, 10% exam.
