- Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is the greatest glimpse into a music text. An understanding of a musical weaving from a vertical and horizontal, as well as from a perspective of detail and as a whole. The relationship of music content to the music stylization used. The connecting of a „musicalized“ text with the use of music. In a work for stage, the relationship of the action to the music. Linkages to other types of arts, philosophy.
The course aim is:
1. Broadening student knowledge in harmony, counterpoint, music form, instrumentation and structure through analysis.
2. Acquaintance with a selected work of music from an analytical perspective.
3. Learning new era analysis procedures appropriate for learning works of the 20th and 21st centuries.
- Mode of study:

Analyses of composition score reading (form, harmony, counterpoint, structure, instrumentation and other characteristic elements in a composition). Subsequent listening to composition recordings with a score. Comparison of analyses. Paper writing and creation of a graphic analysis. Discussion of the presented analysis.

2. Good bearing in the development of European Music.

Na počátku semestru pedagog připraví studentům několik ukázkových rozborů, aby jim rozšířil získané znalosti z 1. semestru a podrobněji je zasvětil do problematiky předmětu.
Studenti ve druhé polovině semestru pracují na analýze jedné skladby 20. a 21. století, zadané s přihlédnutím k jejich individuálním preferencím a dispozicím. Nejméně jednou za semestr prezentují konečnou podobu své kompletní analýzy na semináři a vypracují písemnou verzi rozboru s přihlédnutím k připomínkám vzešlým z jejich prezentace na semináři.

- Assessment methods and criteria:

Credit is awarded based on: class participation, completion and presentation of the semester paper which, in the first semester, is presented in class and in the second semester, aside from the class presentation, a written analysis is submitted.
In the second semester, as well, the student sits an exam which is to check the knowledge acquired during the semester in specific analyses and the management of analytical methods. Part of this is the submission and defense of a developed analysis for the second semester.
The overall grading is comprised of 60% for class participation and 40% for the course writing.
