Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Upon completion the student will know the principles and functions of the organs included in producting vocals and objective interpretation of vocal production, and its properties.

Mode of study:

Interactive instruction.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

A requirement for study is training in the voice creation process and a basic knowledge of human physiology

Course contents:

1. Anatomy and functional physiology of the vocal system (anatomy, histology, physiology), voice failure principles

2. The voice as sound, voice acoustics, basic voice analysis (pitch, voice intensity, acoustic spectrum, formants)

3. Objective vocal system observation methods (vocal field, electo-glotography, stroboscope and optical methods, other methods)

4. Descriptive properties and perception: professional voice, pathological voice. Basics of voice psycho-acoustics. Hearing tests.

5. Voice range and oscillation mechanisms, phonate types, voice color, voice resonance, singing styles and modes from and objective view.

6. Experimental methods, demonstration of acoustic methods and electro-glottography, results of the most modern voice research.
