Learning outcomes of the course unit:

This course is intended for music theory bachelor, masters and doctoral study students. The basic content is a presentation of the results of the students' independent work in music theory (they present a topic in music theory classification, analytic and synthetic music theory, focused on composition and performance theories.

The study aim is to train independent work in music theory, to support innovation in formulation and resolution of music theory issues, development of qualified skills and arguments laid out in discussion.

Mode of study:

Presentation of papers on selected music theory issues. Moderated discussions in which all class members take part. All music theory bachelor, master's and doctoral students take turns presenting.

Guests also present during the course - instructors and doctoral candidates from related workplaces in academies and universities.

Each presentation and discussion is then assessed by the group in detail.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Prerequisites: completion of Music Theory 7

Requirements: Music Theory - Classification 8

The aforementioned requirement is not requested if the student selects the Music Theory 8 coures in their study plan as an elective.

Course contents:

Course syllabus is given by the registered topics of individual referent students:

- bachelor's, master's and doctoral students

- study instructors

- invited guest from related musicology workplace

After each class presentation is a discussion.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Class attendance and participation in class discussion is required. Once per semester, a paper presentation on a selected or assigned topic.

Credit is awarded based on: Class participation, completion and presentation of a paper,participation in class discussions.
