Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Familiarising students with lighting design principles in theatre practice.

Teaching spaces:

- AMU LAB Beroun,

- DISK and Řetízek (in cooperation with DAMU DISK management),

- or Divadlo Inspirace (HAMU).

Mode of study:

Workshop and presentation in spaces equipped with lighting.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Artistic, spatial and colour imagination. Ability to express yourself in these media.

Course contents:

Curriculum:

1. introduction to technology (types of lights),

2. brief theory of light and theory of colour,

3. introduction to lighting styles; aesthetics and philosophy of lighting design,

4. working with colour in lighting design,

5. working with the intensity and timing of lighting changes,

6. the creation of lighting design as a concept,

7. creating presonal lighting figures on the relevant theme,

8. lighting and sound design,

9. working in a set designer-director-actor team.

Syllabus:

In modern theatre practice, lighting design is an irreplaceable component of a production's visual presence. This subject, designed for set designers and directors, broadens their expressive visualisation material. It covers the use of technical devices to fulfil creative tasks and goals.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Presentation of the results from the exercises along with a demonstrated visual imagination in the exercise and skills in linking these with lighting design is the measure for grading the student.

A higher level of study and specialization for set-design students containing a propotional content of artistry, set-design and technology. For Alternative and Puppet Theatre (ALD) Set-design and ALD, Directing and Dramaturgy students. Approx. capacity: 10 students.
