Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Upon completion of the course students will be able to define theatrical symbolic interaction elements taking place in public events.

Mode of study:

Field research of public events around Prague. A selection of data and their analyses. Analysis of selected chapters of professional writings. Discussions about events using theatre and sociology terminology.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Analytical, descriptive and review skills.

Course contents:

In the course the students will work in field research of Prague public areas. Students will work in teams. At the beginning of the course public events which play a important role in the given period of the second half of 2017 will be selected.

Course curriculu:

1. Selection of events.

2. On-going research of given events and collection of data. Readings of professional writings.

3. Processing of collected data. Discussion.

4. Development of a study of individual events.

Assessment methods and criteria:

During the semester participation in field research, independent reading, prepraration of partial papers on an assigned topic and participation in discussion.

Course requirements: Class participation, completion of final course paper (9000 characters). Topic focus for the course paper: a) 1 topic range (ex: Fall elections; State holidays), b) 3 independent partial studies of 3 public events of student's choice.
