The aim of this masterclass is to extend the horizons in the context of contemporary cinema as well as in the context of contemporary film storytelling.
The discussion with Hou Hsiao-hsien will provide an insight look into his filming process and his style of visual storytelling.

A personal meeting with Hou Hsiao-hsien during a round table discussion, which will be hosted by David Wang. Chu Tien-wen will accompany Hou Hsiao-hsien in this discussion.
A reflection of author’s ideas in a two-page essay. Each student is recommended to watch at least one film from author’s retrospective in Cinema Ponrepo, and then demonstrate the presence of one of the author’s ideas from round table in this film.
PART ONE:
WEDNESDAY – May 5th 2017 – KAROLINUM – Císařský sál

14.45 – round table with Hou Hsiao-hsien
PART TWO
Watch at least one film from the Hou Hsiao-hsien retrospective in Ponrepo. Then write a two-page essay, in which you demonstrate the presence of some ideas from the round table in this film.
