Vít Klusák practical for the advanced:

„Documentary film is primarily film and film is primarily a story. It has a narrator or author. That is valued because the author has gone into the world to learn it and understand it with his own eyes, mine and heart and this experience is recast into film. The more personal and distinctive that world is understood, the more authentic it is, the more precise a response it creates. As soon as it tends toward the objective and truth in a common understanding of the purpose, then only nosnsense is recorded. He is lying to himself and his audience.“

Klusák's MODULE with the participation of his colleagues - Kruliš, Sejk a Stuchlík:

ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY REPORT with consideration of the construction of distinctive style in film language

Module program:

Friday 8.12.17, Documentary Dept. classroom 217

9:50-13:05

The first part of the module is dedicated to a collection of works and recommendations on how to create a non-journalistic film report, which has a distinctive cinematic style.

We will cover preparations before shooting, focused research; how set the topic, but also the shooting itself (primarily how to percieve the situation in another and more surprising way than usual).

Part of the presentation will be commented examples for older works by the lecturer. The possibilities of recording authentic live situations will be clearly illustrated in two examples with 2 (to 3) cameras „on location.“

14:00 - 17:15

The second half of the module will be presentation of a practical recording with 2 cameras thanks to the participation of the cameramen,Adam Kruliš and Adam Sejk with whom Klusák worked on film and television programs. We demonstrate how a once-in-a-lifetime can be filmed as it happens: how to locate the cameras; how to communicate; where and how to „safely“ change the perspective and width of the shot; what to shoot ex post. Adam Kruliš, using a small set of available LED lights constructs 2-3 natural lighting atmospheres in which it is „convenient“ to record a situation in an interior. The sound engineer, Petr Stuchlík explains the nature of placing a microport under clothing to get the most useful sound recording. The will, of course, be time for questions.
