Course contents:

The aim of the module is to introduce students to the most important audio--visual pieces which were shot about the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia in 1989. Their extent begins with recordings which were made at the historical breakthrough and continue through the present and towards the on-coming anniversary.

Is it possible to grasp of the historical turn experiences without ideologies and capture it authentically? What does historically credible mean when history is merely a concurrent philosophical construction? Is the original expression or „historical truth“ important? Comparing the latest historical research about the 1989 revolution, we attempt to answer these questions.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Attendance and submission of course paper. The student's task is, prior to the beginning of the module, to send by 12.4.2018 (to the addresss: janrousek@seznam.cz) a one standard page analysis of their favourite piece about a historic event (it does not matter if it is a series, documentary, feature film or what type of historical event). The essay analyses the recording in relation to the historical event and analyses what film language is used to depict it.
