(diary, 2002, my first collaboration with Czech Television)
Students will be introduced to the contemporary organizational structure of Czech Television (Creative productions group system), particularly with their approval, implementation and dramaturgical procedures in documentary film.
In connection with the study perspective on production culture I will attempt to outline the institution of Czech Television as a particular type of production cutlure; with their rituals, narratives , internal complexity, processes, institutional mechanism and ideas about the participants in roles, topics and forms of documentary film inside the television structure.
More detailed attention will be devoted to how Czech Television, today, presents new ideas, what the debates about film / programs are in various phases of their development. We will pose questions regarding institutional processes and mechanisms influencing contemporary discussions about documentary film at Czech Television; how television defines documentary film and individual types representative documentaries. A more detailed look will be devoted to the function of dramaturgy in the television structure.
This module is an extension of long-standing ethnographic research in the institutional mechanisms of Czech Television and it influence on documentary film, whichLucie Králová presented in her recently completed dissertation „Understanding Television. The Production Culture of Czech Television in Documentary film 1993 - 2017“ (available at the FAMU Library).
