Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Students are acquainted with the use of accounting tools in executing work as producer creation and production focusing on the implementation of a feature film, especially distribution of feature films

Mode of study:

Introduction to film history, production and organization.

Definition of the activity areas for discussion in instruction.

Introduction to attending student viewpoints and analysis of suitable and unsuitable variants, outline of reasons for the unsuitable variants.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Knowledge from Economic Applications 1

Presumed is a good bearing in economics concepts such as: expenses, investment, money flows, depreciation, VAT. Concepts from loans such as interest and amortization and the like.

Knowledge of fundamental AVD production technology, its procedures from screenplay to premier. A particular focus on a sense for investigating materials that can be applied to a screenplay. Ability to present one's ideas as assignments for the screenwriter.

Ability to analyse a screenplay focusing on critical places for production from organization and costs viewpoints.

Basic overview and legal awareness in copyright, the labor code, civil code and commercial law with a particular view to using Czech Republic and EU funds . An overview of the legal manners of implementing license sales in individual parts of the world.

Course contents:

Material content according to individual topics:

1/ Introduction. Introduction to the subject. connection to other subjects. Glimpse into history.

2/ Basic types of project financing. Studio system. Independent projects, depedence of the producer on the financiers, advantages and disadvantages. Time value of investment and future income. Tax perspectives.

3/ Basic project finance sources: one's own investment, loan, partnership, sales of future profits, sponsorships, support, services, income guarantees. Market analysis: investment for set sales, income estimates, income guarantees. Partner selection for sales execution.

4/ Selection of financing manner. (deferred payment, investment, loan, future income and sale of rights).

5/ Commercial and financial plan: constructing a plan, constructing a sequence for paying obligations. Income risks. Co-production, its advantages and disadvantages.

6/ Commercial contracts in production: preparation of contracts for the purpose of realizing commercial aims. Legal framework and contractual freedom. Preparations of contracts. Basic parts and production specifics.

7/ Production services contracts: definition of production service. Decision authority of partners. Service implementation requirements. Service delivery dates. Partner obligations. Price determination.

8/ Co-production contracts: generation of co-production relationships. Partner selection. Securing common rights, deposits and conditions.

9/ Co-production contracts: limiting deposits and partner obligations, limiting share of income from the sale of rights. Forms of limitations from legal, empirical and demographic perspectives. State and European support for co-production. State registration and obligations according to the law.

10/ Partner failure risk. Insurance in general. Insurance on film completion (completion bond)

11/ Sale of rights: definition of law. Characteristics of individual types of rights from the producer's perspective. Procedures in constructing a sales plan. Sales agent. Individual types of sales. Sales investment. Producer income.

12/ Project financing: payment conditions. payment instruments. Money flows and tax perspectives.

13/ Long-term cooperation relationships, long-term contracts, joint ventures.

14/ Conclusion, Semester evaluation, student evaluations.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Attendance at lectures because the covered material (some exceptions) cannot be completely covered in practical activities, is required.

The ability level of a student at a higher institute of education to present their knowledge and viewpoints in issues related to the lecture material in the exam period. It is possible to expect and request open discussions over the questions posed and conflict of opinions about the issues.
