Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim of the course is to support the educational activity of the students and students who have completed film oriented studies in formal and informal education. Film/Audio-visual training is very sporadic in Czech schools. There are no accredited instructors. We are trying to change this situation.

Mode of study:

Instruction in a) classes, b) lecture, c) excursion practicals, d) work on independent education projects

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

The course is open preferably to students who have completed the course Filmmaker - Instructor 1 in the Summer semester 2017/2018. If there are places it will be open to all interested.

Course contents:

The film education workshop creates a place for students who are interested in instructor/lecturer work in film studies in formal and informal education. We are convinced that the education (mission) activity of the student can help determine their own original creations. The course will be structured as an inspirational mosaic of approaches to film training, working with the public, lecturer introductions, festival dramaturgy and other disciplines which are initiated from direct interaction with the film audience. Parts include lectures. Students can consult on their own education project and in the meanwhile inprove their rhetorical and instruction skills in order for them to be able to be active in film and audiovisual field. The general student preparation is given throughout the semester. We are attempting nothing less than achieving the most in film education.

Date and time:

The classes will take place in the spaces of the Editing Dept. Part of the instruction will also be excursion for practicals and lectures. The dates and times listed below the basic meetings 1 time every two weeks. Beyond this the student must count on additional time which will be needed for 'field practice'.

Requirements for award of credit are completion of course, participation in practicals and work on one's independent education project.

The overall structure of instruction will be the potential for completing several practical interships for reinforcing student instructing skills.

Lecturer CV:

Jiří Forejt

Dramaturgist, instructor, methodologist. Graduate of Film and television production at FAMU. He is the creator and initiator of the design of working with the public implemented 2013-2016 in the Ponrepo Cinema. He started the creation of the film training department at the National Film Archive. He is founder and president of the Free Cinema Profiv ops. management board. He is a producer for the creative label Free Cinema Films. He collaborates in the distribution of Project100 as a methodologist. Since 2016 he has organized education seminars for film professionals „How to Introduce Film“. Since 2017 he has been a dramaturgist for the Marienbad Film Festival. He is currently studying for his doctorate at FAMU; research focused on working with the public in cinema spaces. He lectures at FAMU on topics related to film training, working with the public, cinema attractions and Italian film.

Martin Čihák

Studied at the Mathematics-Physics Faculty of the Charles University (education) then completed studies at FAMU - Film and Television Faculty (Editing Dept.) and finally post-graduate studies at the Film Research Dept. of the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University where he defended his dissertation „Arrangement Procedures of the Avant-garde“ which in expanded form was published by NAMU under the title A River of Immersion in Cinematography. In the book Distace Montage by Artavazd Pelesjana (NAMU) he published 'The Didactics of Distance" devoted to issues in distance montage training.
