Arne Zaslove (www.zaslove.com) is in residence at AMU during the month of October through a Fulbright Senior Specialist award. This is Arne’s third Fulbright award, his first being at the Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris and his second at Iceland’s Academy of the Arts. Arne has years of experience as an actor, director, teacher and consultant to theatre and film projects. His method of working with actors was synthesized as Artistic Director of the National Theatre School in Canada, co-founder of the University of Washington PATP program, and Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia. His approach focuses on freeing the individual's body and imagination through a carefully devised sequence of physical exercises, mask work and improvisation. His students have gone on to varied and successful careers, from the circus to Stratford and Hollywood. He has shared his many years of experience nurturing performers, directors, designers and writers at schools throughout the United States and Europe. At FAMU, Arne offers a three-day workshop for directing students in “Directing for Physicality” where he will train the director in techniques to free an actor’s physical expression and direct the actor toward a physicality that serves the character to tell the story.
