Course contents:

Beginning with a screening of rare hand-painted films from the turn of the 20th century out of the collection of the National Film Archive, this module will compare this laborious & dazzling early technique of creating color film to its later usage in avant-garde film (especially prominent in the work of Len Lye and Stan Brakhage).

To receive credit, ATTENDANCE AT ALL SCREENING IS MANDATORY. A journal describing your experience of these films (3 page minimum; plagiarism off the internet will result in failure) is due after the last class, in order to have your credit posted. Email to henry@henryhills.com
