Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course aim is the adoption of practical experience and skills in working with an opera ensemble in all preparation phases of an opera staging. The specifics of the study with individual opera ensemble elements. Application of interpretation intentions in collaborating with other directors (director, designer, choreographer).

Course contents

The adoption of practical experience and skills in working with an opera ensemble in all preparation phases of an opera staging. The specifics of the study with individual opera ensemble elements. Application of interpretation intentions in collaborating with other directors (director, designer, choreographer).

Preparation and performance of the opera or operatic output is possible with a small chamber ensembles or with only piano accompaniment.

Recommended or required reading

Operas are selected according to the dramaturgic plan of Opera Studies and contain works with various stylistic periods and casting (from chamber opera to works requiring large casts, soloists, orchestras and choirs).

Assessment methods and criteria

Instructor and student attendance at opera performances and subsequent evaluation in class. Credit.
