Learning outcomes of the course unit

Organ playing methods provides the bachelor's graduate gradually with the theory foundation for their teaching. In related points it is linked to piano playing methods and covers aspects which come from organ characteristics, articulation techniques, recital techniques and specific issues.

Course contents

The didactics are tied to all instructional procedures including the specification of methodological outputs and the quality of outputs in interpretive fields.Manual technique: basic introduction to the instrument. Difference between piano and organ techique. Legato playing. Setting and preparing the fingers. silent changing on a single tone. Multiple silent changes. Glissando. Thumb glissando, Repeated tones. Basic set of prepared fingerings.

Pedal technique: Toeing and Heeling. Repeated tones. Silent changes. Glissando, setting and preparing the feet. Distributed chords. Double pedal. Chording. Pedal scales. Joining pedals and the left hand. Joining the pedals and the right hand. Joining hand and pedal playing.

Articulation technique: Legato, Legatissimo, Staccato, Portato, Leggiero, Articulation in polyphony.

Specific issues: hand transitions, assisting tools - blinds - crescendo drum - other controls.

Expression technique: accent, types of accent, accelerando, ritardando, ritenuto, Romance agogic waves.
