Learning outcomes of the course unit

This course serves as methodic practice and explanation of all issues of trombone playing. It covers slide technique, interpretation concepts, literature and student activity in practice with young beginning trombone players.

  1. Proper slide technique methodology
  2. Explanation of interpretation concepts from the methodic practice viewpoint
  3. Literature for trombone methodically divided for individual school levels and pupil potential
  4. Methodic activity with beginning pupils with various levels of talent.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Instrument skills corresponding to the study year and profile of the student. Sufficient music repertoire.

Course contents

This course prepares student for the teaching track in middle schools, conservatories or music schools. This helps students understand Tombone playing principles in practice. This course discusses issues of proper slide technique, interpretation and literature. Students are able to work with pupils who have just begun playing the instrument. Slide technique is demonstrated in simple etudes and how to properly proceed in practice or eliminating problems is presented. Performance potential and a view of ways to reach proper or potential performance is also a large part of the course. This is linked to an overview of instrument literature. Methodology in practice is part of the course where the student alone methodically guides the pupil either beginning on the trombone or attaining various levels of playing.
