Learning outcomes of the course unit

At both levels of French horn playing - technical and recital maximum challenge is applied in execution and precision. The etudes are of the most difficult in technique, rhythm, intonation, embouchure and breathing aspects. Recital pieces place demands on the students playing level in both the technique and performance aspects.

  1. Etudes - Nauber, Kautsky
  2. Recital pieces - W.A. Mozart, J. Haydn, P. Hindemith.
  3. Double staccato is practices in orchestral pieces where the use of double staccato is required.

Mode of study

On-going participation in chamber competitions and in symphonic and opera orchestra auditions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Instrument skills at the level corresponding to the study year and student profile.

Course contents

This course provides the student with technique, tone quality, intonation, performance skills such that they will succeed in orchestral, soloist, chamber work. The future artist is guided to independence, the realization of their own ideas and the defense of their thought. The final bachelor's study, this covers the direction of the bachelor's graduation concert and finalizing of the thesis into its final form.Etudes are selected to allow the study of the selected bachelor's repertoire. Mostly these are the most demanding - Nauber, Kautskz. In the technical and recital aspects, maximum attentio is given to execution and precision. Recital literature corresponds with the repertoire of the graduation concert but attention is focused on some compositions of periods or styles which have not jet been sufficiently practice during study. Assessment methods and criteria

Student performance is assessed in all facets of performance. First of all the composition the student played is examined and individual pitfalls of performance are pointed out. Also assessed is how the student dealt with these problems. Noted, as well, is the playing level of the student in terms of technique, intonation, sound, dynamics and performance.
