Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course is for methodic practice and explanation of all trumpet playing issues. It covers fingering technique, performance concepts, literature and activities with young beginning trumpet players.

  1. Proper fingering technique method
  2. Explanation of peformance concepts from the methodic practice aspect.
  3. Literature for trumpet divided for individual school levels and pupil potential
  4. Methodic activities with beginning pupils with varying levels of talent.

Mode of study

Stage practice in solo creations, chamber ensembles and smaller or symphony orchestras. Regular presentation in the performance classes and playback of independent instrument classes.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Instrument skills at the level corresponding to the study year and student profile.

Course contents

This course provides students with techique, tone quality, intonation and performance skills in order to withstand competition in soloist, chamber and orchestra music. It guides the future artist to independence in implementing their own ideas and defending their thoughts. Considering that each student possesses individual skills in reacting quickly or slowly to new realities, or has other physical abilities for mastering individual aspects of playing, an individual path is selected for each enabling learning as quickly as possible proper habits and removing those which are not a part of trumpet playing. The course content is to find the appropriate path to removing those deficiencies, refining proper technique, continuing with proper breathing, etc. Rhythmic, intonation and metric precision is practice in etudes by - J.B. Arban, R. Caffarelli. In is necessary that this student properly understands all the principles from the Trumpet 1 course. The student should learn master the fingers to be able to hold each tone which is important or interesting and highlight it, while coordinating the embouchure. In recital compositions not only is the technique aspect refined but also knowledge in the structure of a classic concerto and the nature of music. A selection of recital compostions is oriented towards works by composers such as: J. Haydn, P. Hindemith, A. Arutjunjan, and the like. An effort to master all the attributes of playing the instrument at the most balanced is necessary.

Assessment methods and criteria

Student performance is assessed in all facets of performance. First of all the composition the student played is examined and individual pitfalls of performance are pointed out. Also assessed is how the student dealt with these problems. Noted, as well, is the playing level of the student in terms of technique, intonation, sound, dynamics and performance.
