Learning outcomes of the course unit

In this final course all principles, regarding trumpet playing, at least from the students' perspective are reviewed, The student must be able to name all the aspects and demonstrate them. This covers proper fingering technique, breathing exercises, tone quality and intonation. An emphasis is placed on knowledge in performance or non-traditional techniques and forms. Graduates, first of all, demonstrate their music thought and personality on ompositions arranged into study.

Mode of study

Systematic stage practice in solo creation, chamber ensembles and smaller or symphony orchestra. Regular presentation in the performance seminar and recordings of individual instrument classes.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Instrument skill at the level corresponding to the study year and student profile.

Course contents

This final course reviews all trumpet playing aspects which may occur, from the students perspective. Students learn to formulate instrument playing issues. They learn to resolve all possible problem combinations which may be anticipated in performance practice. The student is guided so that in the education track they will be able to analyse situations and extrapolate the proper conclusions. Students are directed to an understanding of concert dramaturgy and the psychological aspects of a soloist. The student must be able to name and explain all aspects. The student, first of all, demonstrates their music thought, personality in compositions performed. The student is prepared for an independent career. Their viewpoints are compared with those of the professor and directed to pthe proper place. The course works with the student as an already distinct musician, who has no apparent problems in instrument playing. They have an excellent technique, tone quality, intonation and performance skills. Thes are the conditions necessary to withstand well competition in the solo, chamber and orchestra music fields. This course continues the established path from the previous course, an mainly creative activity, very good technique, tone quality, intonation reaching for the „perfect form.“ The basic repertoire and others acceptatble for the stage may be used for these things. Ex: H.W. Henze, J. Matěj., from the 21st Century and contemporary compositions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Student performance is evaluated in all performance aspects. First, the composition played is analysed and individual performance difficulties are demonstrated. How the student managed these issues is assessed. The playing level in the technique, intonation, sound, dynamics and performance aspects are also commented.
