Learning outcomes of the course unit

This course expands the covered material to more complicated dance and dances from other folklore regions.

Mode of study

Performance of presented dances. Individual variations and whole dances with their variants. Students develop their skills in a dance hall.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Active participation in lessons. Creation of detailed variations of steps covered and their phrasing. Creation of a model folkdance training lesson.

Course contents

The basic form of dance steps: Each student works on the masterz of the basic form of dance steps, at first individually. Precise technique mastery of a given step is the basis for all possible executions (straight, in turns right and left).

Learning steps is joined to a larger whole, so called combination. First simple steps are joined and then more technically challenging steps in a phrase. The next step is the dance in pairs. Pair dance is in folkdance completely inseparable and therefore great attention is given to it. Various pair holds are combined and manners of changing them pairs.

Rhythmic changes in steps: Steps are performed in various space, tempo and rhythmic changes. Each step has its own schematic and rhythm basis. Rhythm changes create, in the technical performance of the step changes which are the basis for the differences in folklore regions.

Additional possible step variations in folklore dance: With examples and comparison of the differences in steps of individual regions we improve the character and manner of the dance which is typical for a given region. Combinations of steps: 2/4 circle steps with stroll, hops and semi-running, 3/4 circle steps with step hold and horizontal arches. Točené motifs - whirling in pairs, ornamenting a boy, turning girls, Řezana with rhythmic claps and reverses. Smooth Obkročák with reverses in pairs together and away from each other, Wallachian step with legs together and crossing in front and back and with reverses in 1/4 and 1/2, polka steps with rhythmic stamps, polka in paris with turning girls under, polka in connection with two hop steps and three stams at the end (and for turning the girl). Analzsis of dance schemes with no direct connnection to music accompaniment - Opening song before the music (dancer movement in the opening song) dancing in pairs, decorating boys and spinning girls.
