Learning outcomes of the course unit

Presentation of elementary historical music methodology - sources, literature, periodization of music history. A presentation of the history from the Baroque to early Classicism.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Completion of the basic course of music history at the middle-school level. No other requirements.

Course contents

Required course for all music and music theory studies at HAMU. Instruction is 2 hours weekly in the Winter semester of the 1st year of Bachelor's study. Instruction is concluded with credit for completing the written verification exam over the lecture material. Topics 1: Introduction to Music history study: subject, methods and the aims of music historiography. Sources and literature, Music History periodization. Topics 2: Baroque music including Czech Baroque Music. Topics 3: Early Classic Music.
