Learning outcomes of the course unit

The study aim is to train graduates:

  1. a multi-faceted familiarity with historcal changes in the field in relation to style developments of the art and period social processes;
  2. at the higher master's level a knowledgeable consideration of this type of art;
  3. enrichment of the education foundation of the student about motivations from modern professional literature and belle lettres, modern theatre and specialized creations;
  4. independent analysis skills of a work in its own genre in a theatre context, respectively dance arts.

Mode of study

After the bachelor study period the instruction aims lie in lectures whose content is demonstrated, if possible, by visual and text material from archives on video and DVD. Students are required to investigate historical forms of procedures or thought in unison with the modern paths of the art. Subsequently in the master's study discussion of theory topics is preferred selected by the instructor and significant artistic enterprises provided in audio-visual recordings. For selection individual studendt interests or specialization are considered.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Considering the character of mime theatre as a inter-species genre a good knowledge in history and contemporary theatre and dance arts is needed. If such is not available, one of the the following courses, for example, Selected Chapters in the History of Theatre, History of Dance should concurrently be studied.

Course contents

The history and theory of mime theatre are understood as the fundaments of student training.

  1. History of mime theatre, knowledge of its fundamental concepts.
  2. The process of forming an opinion of mime arts through time.
  3. Determining and delimitation of mime theatre issues.
  4. Analysis of individual artistic enterprises.

Assessment methods and criteria

During study independent readings, knowledge of important mimic theatre works and participation in discussion are required. The requirement for the award of credit or a test is: completion of semester assignments, activity during lectures and classes, successful completion of an oral exam.

Note

Considering the sometimes long-term internships of one or more students abroad the course is appropriately and exceptionally scheduled. Otherwise the instruction is arranged within „New Circus“ from the summer and that part of the program is dropped which is related to circus arts.
