Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course aim is the practice of basic skills in working with sound material.

Mode of study

Interactive instruction

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Basic knowledge of acoustics, electro-acoustics, music signal theory and music theory. Assured knowledge in working with Macintosh and PC operating systems.

Course contents

Sound categories - the spoken word, ambient noise, atmospheric, music

Recording the spoken word, microphone selection, exteriors, interiors, studio

Stylizations of speech, Commentary, reports.

Editing the spoken word and music - destructive form

Recordings of ambient noise, mono vs. stereo. Stylizations of ambient noise for film and radio use.

Archiving, sound banks.
