Learning outcomes of the course unit
Study of Jazz harmony and its development in the first half of the 20th century. Basics of arranging for a combo and small jazz ensembles. Basics of jazz compositions and a study of the standards and Jazz compositions of the 1920s to 1950s.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Completion of a basic music theory course at the middle-school level.
Course contents
A required course for Jazz music studies at HAMU. Two hours per week in the Winter semester of the 1st study year of the Bachelor's study.
Instruction is concluded with credit upon completion of all assignments and two larger projects based on the lecture material.
Section 1: Basics of Jazz harmony
Section 2: Arranging for a Jazz combo and small Jazz ensembles.
Section 3: Study and analysis of Jazz compositions of the 1920s-50s and students' works in this music style.
