Learning outcomes of the course unit

Continuation of „Music Theory Text Analysis 6.“ Study of texts of medium and longer length and greater complexity focusing on analytical, survey and sythetic writings. A parallel study of more difficult texts of classical music theory and instructional and popular texts. Potential for publishing successful short texts in trade perodicals. The semester paper is required to have a significant part of independently handled critical assessment of the covered issue.

Mode of study

Classes with individual student performances and subsequent discussion.

Completion of Music Theory Text Analysis 6. No other requirements.

Course contents

A required course for Music Theory studies. Instruction is 1 hour per week in the winter semester of the 1st year of Master's study. Linking of Music Theory, History and Classification. Independent study of intermediate extent and complex music theory writingsfocused on 20th century music, on new tone and composition techniques and new music and sound material (micro-intervals, non-music sounds). Parallel study of classic music theory writings. Preparations for the master's thesis.
